What is Geothermal?
Geothermal heat pumps are like air source heat pumps in that they remove heat from your house in the summer and draw heat from the outside to warm your house in the winter. Geothermal heat pumps are different from air source heat pumps in that they use the ground rather than outside air for exchanging heat.
Geothermal heat pumps are much more efficient than conventional air source heat pumps and gas furnaces. The temperature of the earth is much more stable than the temperature of the outside air, making it easier for the heat pump to reject heat in the summer and extract heat in the winter. The geothermal loop and the surrounding earth also act as thermal storage, allowing the heat pump to reuse some of the heat rejected during the summer when the heat is needed in the winter.
Both power utilities and the federal government recognize geothermal heat pumps as highly efficient and offer financial incentives for installing them. Please contact us to find out what financial incentives are available to you, for a free quote, or for geothermal system service.
